The heart of the University Palace, the Pátio das Escolas is an ambiguous place: an open space overlooking the city and a palace circumscribed by the historic and imposing building of the University of Coimbra. On the threshold between a colonial past that resonates in its architecture and the contents it will host in this edition of the biennial, the Phantom of Liberty’s wavering presence will be felt by all visitors.
